Samuel Thornton y Richard Mount, Londres, 1702-07
Samuel Thornton (c.1665-1712) era hijo de John Thornton (1641–1708) , considerado “el más competente y distinguido creador de mapas de Inglaterra”. Heredó su negocio, reimprimiendo sus trabajos bajo su propio nombre, aunque le sobrevivió pocos años. El negocio pasó a ser propiedad de Mount & Page.
El mapa de Cádiz dice, debajo del título: Por un oficial de la Flota 1695, con Adiciones de las Fortificaciones actuales, etc

Samuel Thornton & Richard Mount, London, 1702-07
Samuel Thornton (c.1665-1712) was the son of John Thornton (1641–1708), who was considered “the most competent and distinguished mapmaker in England”. Samuel inherited his father’s business, reprinting the works under his own name, although he only survived his father by a few years. The business became the property of Mount & Page.
The third of the maps below bears the following text under the title: By an Officer of the Fleet 1695, with Additions of the present Fortifications, etc.

Manuscript atlas with 144 maps, two of them of Cádiz. The only known work by Christian Mechlin, it is housed in the James Ford Bell Library at the University of Minnesota.

Atlas de la Navegación y del Comercio
Louis Renard (1678?-1746) perteneció a una familia de hugonotes que emigró a los Países Bajos cuando la revocación del Edicto de Nantes la puso en peligro. Llegó a ser en Ámsterdam autor y editor de libros. Su Atlas tuvo un gran éxito, y se reeditó más tarde en francés y en holandés.
Hay un ejemplar del atlas en la Biblioteca Virtual del Patrimonio Bibliográfico, al que pertenecen estas imágenes.
Atlas of Navigation and Trade
Louis Renard (1678? -1746), a member of a Huguenot family, fled to the Netherlands when the revocation of the Edict of Nantes put them in peril. He went on to become a book author, dealer and publisher in Amsterdam. His Atlas was a great success, and was republished years later in French and Dutch.

Henri Michelot y Laurent Bremond fueron cartógrafos franceses de finales del s. XVII y primeros años del s. XVIII, época del predominio de Francia en la cartografía europea.
Hay un ejemplar del atlas en la Biblioteca Digital Hispánica, cuyo primer mapa es el de la Bahía de Cádiz, al que siguen la Bahía de Gibraltar y los puertos del Mediterráneo. Las dos imágenes se han tomado de ese atlas.
En Espacio 4, Las Costas, se recoge un mapa de Cádiz y el Estrecho de los mismos cartógrafos.
Collection of various Maps of Mediterranean Ports and Inlets
Henri Michelot and Laurent Bremond were French cartographers in the late 17th and early 18th century, a period of French predominance in European cartography.
The copy of the atlas in the Hispanic Digital Library contains a map of the Bay of Cádiz, followed by another of the Bay of Gibraltar and others of Mediterranean ports. The two images below were taken from this atlas.
In Space 4, Coasts, there is a map of Cádiz and the Strait of the same cartographers.

Atlas Maritimus Novus, o el Nuevo Atlas Marítimo
Mount & Page, Londres, 1750
Richard Mount (1654-1722) y Thomas Page (1680-1733) fueron editores ingleses de libros de Náutica y de Cartas Marinas, empresa que continuaron sus descendientes.
En el Reales Museos de Greenwich hay una colección de mapas de Mount & Page, a la que pertenece el que aquí se reproduce, del Atlas Maritimus Novus.

Richard Mount (1654-1722) and Thomas Page (1680-1733) were English publishers of Nautical books and Marine Charts, an enterprise that was later continued by their heirs.

Pequeño Atlas Marítimo
Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) fue un cartógrafo francés, Enciclopedista y perteneciente al grupo de Los Filósofos, que incluía a las grandes figuras de la Ilustración en Francia. Nombrado Oficial Hidrógrafico del rey, produjo muchos mapas de gran calidad, siendo especialmente importantes los de las colonias francesas en América del Norte, así como el Petit Atlas Maritime, en cinco tomos de pequeño formato.
La imágenes corresponden al ejemplar del Petit Atlas Maritime en la BnF Gallica (vistas 9, 141 y 144).
Little Sea Atlas
Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703-1772) was a French cartographer, Encyclopedist and member of the Philosophers, which included the main figures of the Enlightenment in France. Appointed Hydrographic Officer of the king, he made many high-quality maps, deserving special mention those of the French colonies in North America, as well as the Petit Atlas Maritime, in five small-format volumes.
These images correspond to views 9, 141 and 144 respectively of the copy of the Petit Atlas Maritime in the BnF Gallica.

Vicente Tofiño de San Miguel y Van der Walle (1732- 1795) era brigadier de la Real Armada y Director de las Academias de Guardias Marinas.
El Secretario de Estado de Marina Antonio Valdés promovió la elaboración del Atlas. Fue el primer atlas español realizado según los nuevos procedimientos de la cartografía científica.
Las imágenes pertenecen a las páginas 7, 54 y 56 del ejemplar de la Biblioteca Digital Hispánica.

Vicente Tofiño de San Miguel y Van der Walle (1732-1795) was a Brigadier in the Royal Navy and Director of the Midshipmen Naval Academies.
The atlas, which was promoted by the Secretary of State of the Navy Antonio Valdés, was the first Spanish atlas made using the new procedures of scientific cartography.
The images correspond to pages 7, 54 and 56 respectively of the copy in Hispanic Digital Library.

Los Derroteros son obras de descripción de las costas, con sus accidentes, señales, obstáculos para la navegación, perfiles visuales, etc, indispensables para el navegante. El de Tofiño para las costas atlánticas tiene unas 250 páginas, 10 de las cuales se dedican a la Bahía de Cádiz.

Rutter of the coasts of Spain in the Atlantic Ocean

Rutters are works that describe coasts, with their geographical features, signs, navigation obstacles, visual profiles, etc, essential for navigators. Tofiño’s rutter of the Atlantic coasts has about 250 pages, 10 of which are devoted to the Bay of Cádiz.
